I love this weather! Fall could last for three months and I wouldn’t mind at all. Blue skies, crisp, cool weather. Decorations that include pumpkins and scarecrows and candy corn. There is no rush for Thanksgiving or Christmas in my book. Did you know that Christmas decorations are already up in the stores? And Christmas music is being played for your shopping enjoyment? The other day I was in a well known institution of consumer delight and a lady walked by with a halloween costume in one hand and a stuffed reindeer in the other.

I left Walmart feeling slightly disoriented. :eyes:

This week has been a blur. I haven’t read, written, or blogged. But I have left my purse at an office I was at yesterday and had to travel the 25 miles back to retrieve it. In rush hour traffic.

Made it home in time to see Invasion. I even had to laugh with the three guys when they were eating around the campfire. Guys will be guys. But can they really do that on prime time TV?

‘It’s only love when you’re loved in return
Some fools never learn’

sung by Steve Wariner~Some Fools Never Learn

Everyone needs to be humbled occasionally. Unfortunately, it happens quite often to me. Call me an expert at it. My latest humbling experience involved 3 guys and a Starbucks.

Last Thursday night, my dh had some friends visit, so I decided I would give them some space. Guy talk. Macho men grunting.

No, thanks, I’m outta there.

So I decided it was a good evening to have some space of my own. And what better place then Starbucks. Not far from home, the atmosphere rocks, and I can always use a non-fat, sugar-free grande vanilla latte. It’s still light out and can be home before dark.

Walking in, I immediately noticed three men sitting around a small round table in the corner. Nice looking, clean cut, and one with long legs encased in tight jeans. I ‘heart’ long legs in tight jeans. But being the happily married woman I am, I only stole a quick look, placed my order at the counter, then found a comfy chair in the opposite corner. For the next half hour I sipped my latte, snacked on a fruit salad, and pretended to read a book when in truth I was fascinated with the happenings on the opposite side of the room. Not wanting them to see me watching the male ritual, I took my sunglasses out of my purse and put them on.

Here’s what I observed:

Animated guy-talk until a female walked in the door. Conversation ceases. Coffee cups lifted to mouths. Eyes over coffee lids check out babe. Ocassionally one would punch another and nod in direction of said babe. It didn’t take long to figure out that the ‘not-so-babes’ didn’t warrant the punch and the nod. Babe leaves. Conversation resumes.

I get a big kick out it, make mental notes to be used in future novel, and soon it is time for me to leave. I stand up, gather my empty containers and eyeball the room to find the garbage. As luck would have it, the path to the only trash can in the room led right by the table of testosterone.

No problem.
Doesn’t bother me.
Happily married.
Totally secure in my role as woman.
Probably too old for them anyway.

Through the safety of my sunglasses, I can see they notice me coming.
Conversation ceases. ‘Hmmm, that’s cool.’ I think to myself.
Three cups lift to three mouths. ‘What? Never expected that.’
Three sets of eyes watch my approach. ‘O.M.G, could it mean…?’
One guy punches the other. ‘Yes! I still have it! WooHoo!’ I happy dance in my mind.
I reach the trash can and dispose of my empties. As I turn, I see Long Legs in Tight Jeans rise from his chair and walk the short distance to where I was in front of the receptacle. He reaches around me, throws his cup away and looks at me for a moment.

I bask in his attention. ‘I am married. I am married. I am…’

“Ma’am,” Mr. Long Legs says quietly, ‘Ma’am?? What’s with that?’ “You are a real doll, babe, but do you realize you have two pairs of glasses on? Just thought you would want to know.” A nice smile and then he and the others walk out the door.

I evidently had put my sunglasses on over my reading glasses.

Yes, sigh, I do still have it. A big piece of humble pie.

Wednesday night is ‘Lost’ and ‘Invasion’ night for me. I am hooked and I admit it. Fortunately they view at different times and same channel which make it so much easier since our DVR (it’s like TIVO but comes with our satellite service) makes you watch the same channel it’s taping. No watching one channel while you tape the other. What’s the use of that? If I am watching it, I don’t NEED to tape it. Duh!

Bloggin’ friend Devon works in film and it is fascinating to read her experiences with it. She evidently is very conscientious in her job and makes sure everyone and everything is just like the previous days ‘takes’ when they do what she explained ‘matched shots”. You know, the guy in the blue shirt doesn’t wear red this time etc.

With that blog fresh in mind, I caught a mistake on Invasion tonight.

Larkin (a female main character) ‘beeped’ her vehicle to unlock it, opened the door and grabbed the open window frame!

The window was down!

Was all excited to point this out to my family. But my husband just rolled his eyes and said many people lock their cars with the window down. PUH-Leeze! Are you kidding?
My son agreed with him.
I don’t believe that for a second.

Bet it wouldn’t have happened on Devon’s watch.

World Series

Well, the Astros did it. Won the championship and are now headed to the World Series. Not that I necessarily care, but others here in the state of Texas do. Mind you, baseball has always been a big part of my life due to the fact I had four sons and each one played all the way from T-ball to High School. In fact, when my last son was born and they told me it was a little boy, my remark in the delivery room was, “Oh, no! Seven more years of little league!” And I always got stuck frying french fries when it was my turn to work the concession stand.

But it’s the first time any league from Texas made the World Series, so it will be worth keeping up with.

Every November they have what is called National Novel Writing Month. It is a challenge to writers to individually set a goal of writing a 175 page novel (50,000 words) from Nov. 1 – midnight Nov. 30. But when I had signed up for Fast Draft earlier this month, a hurricane entered the gulf and lots of friends and family came to visit. :eyes: The minute I signed up for NaNoWriMo, hurricane Wilma reared her ugly head. I am beginning to see a pattern here. And not a good one.

This, my friends, is my third-in-line-to-the-throne’s BEST pair of blue jeans. Best? I ask him. Well, yeah, Mom, you know, just right.

Just right? I hear an echo. And it’s me. He is leaving to go on a date wearing…THIS! I am speechless. And appalled.

‘Just right’ for the trash can in my opinion. With a horrified look he makes me promise I would never consign his favorite and BEST pair of blue jeans to the garbage. I remind him that we can afford a new pair. He gives me the same look he gives his irritating younger brother. Why would he want a new pair when these are just broken in?

What is it with men that they can’t bear to part with clothes that are better off dusting the furniture or washing the dog? My husband loves to wear an pair of orange shorts with a maroon t-shirt and it makes me nuts! Not to mention hurt my eyes. He says it is just to irritate me but I wonder if maybe he is really color blind and won’t admit it. But I have warned him – he is dead meat if he steps out of the house with them on, and will be the last time he ever sees them! So far, he believes me.

Please someone else tell me they have the same problem with the male population in their household!

‘I’ll spread my wings and I’ll learn how to fly
I’ll do what it takes till I touch the sky
take a risk
take a chance
make a change
and break away

sung by Kelly Clarkson ~Breakaway~

This song is so motivating to me. Listening to it all weekend long spurred me to WRITE! I wrote the Prez’s column (it’s early! don’t faint, Mik! and thanks Carolyn for being so kind to critique for me every month) started a Christmas short story, and revised and finished the prologue on my WIP (I will not touch it again, I will not touch it again…), and revised a short story I wrote several years ago on murder (yes, I do have a dark side  ). I am working on my courage to send it and a poem I wrote to a new online review I just heard about.

Break away and take a chance.

I need to work on the art of receiving rejections, anyway, LOL.

A new challenge!
Hey, I have been tagged! I love a new challenge! Mik tagged me to search my blog for anything words that mean ‘happiness’ or ‘joy’. I am a happy type person so here goes:
How about this one: Doesn’t Starbucks and decadence mean ‘happy’ in 14 foreign languages? or this one The Top Things I Love. They make me happy.

Now I am tagging you (and any others who want to take the challenge) to the happy challenge:
1. Sandy S
2. Cece
3. Dennie

Here are the rules:

Search your blog for the word “joy” used in the context of “happiness.” If you cannot find the word in your weblog, you may use any of the select list of synonyms below.

joy — amusement, bliss, cheer, comfort, delectation, delight, ecstasy, elation, exaltation, exultation, exulting, felicity, gaiety, gladness, glee, good humor, gratification, happiness, hilarity, humor, jubilance, liveliness, merriment, mirth, pleasure, rapture, regalement, rejoicing, revelry, satisfaction, wonder

If your weblog does not include a built-in search engine, then you can use Google to search it only for the word you wish to find.

If you’ve found the word and it was not used facetiously or sarcastically, good for you. All you need to do is link to your earlier entry, and write a few words about that joyous moment. If, however, you have no joy (whole words only) in your weblog, you must dig deep in your soul and find something wonderful in your life right now. One little thing that fills you with warmth, that bubbles you over with quiet happiness, or tickles you with its good-hearted hilarity, or makes you glad you just took a breath, and are getting ready to take another. It doesn’t have to be anything big. A smile someone gave you; your cat on your shoulder; the way the light angles through your window and casts rainbows on your floor. All it has to be is something genuine, something real, something that matters to you.

Because we all need joy in our lives, and need to take the time — from time to time — to recognize it. And sometimes, we need to pass it on.

Even if we’re a big pain in the ass when we do.

When you’ve dealt with your own joy, pass the quest on to five other bloggers.

Go for it!
